Depression is a tough issue that doesn't need to be handled alone. Millions suffer from symptoms of depression every year, and feel afraid to tell others or reach out for professional help. In times of trouble, the listening ear of a trained and experienced depression therapist can make a world of difference. Depression might show up for you in different ways, sadness that permeates your life or perhaps feeling blue, or just "blah." Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself or others, or have feelings of drifting through life rather than living a life of intention.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Master Addiction Counselor, and I believe you can experience healing and empowerment as you choose a different future. I approach every depression counseling session with a fresh perspective. I seek to help you create solutions that you can live with for the rest of your life.
Solution-Focused Depression Counseling
I pay close attention to your goals and values, and use goal-oriented treatment methods to help you find a way forward. Among other techniques, I help treat depression using Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I am proud to be a conference presenter and a published author on the subject.
What is SFBT? Simply put, it is treatment that focuses on seeking wisdom and solutions beyond the problems, and taking concrete steps to implement those solutions.
Your active participation during depression treatment is vital to recovery. You are the expert on your own life. My job as a therapist is to help you discover the wisdom you need to move toward a fulfilled, meaningful life. That means I won't use confrontation or try to interpret your life for you. Instead, our depression treatment sessions will begin with a series of enlightening questions.
In my experience, this approach can help you quickly reach your goals while feeling a sense of accomplishment and ownership over your solutions. The brief aspect of this therapy does not necessarily mean that there is a minimum or maximum number of possible counseling sessions. Most individuals find that when they identify their real and meaningful solutions and begin to live their solutions, they do not need prolonged counseling sessions.
